PRESENTATION OF OUR WORKSHOP

We have been designing and making horn objects since 2013 in our workshop in Bélesta in Ariège..

You can discover the rest of our confections on the page : other items

From the start, we have been making picks in horn and other natural materials that we sell in our workshop and on craft markets in the Occitania region. Musicians often come back to us to reorder more picks so we have designed this site to cater for the demand.

ETHOS

We have chosen to market exclusively picks made by us. We make them in small batches and can work to order if you want a bespoke shape.

Our materials are natural and ecological. The horn and bone come from slaughterhouse animals. We make our picks from these by-products, which are otherwise going to waste and incinerated. All our scraps and the dust we generate are transformed into natural fertiliser.

The wood we use comes from the forests of Ariège and Aude. The deer antlers are scraps gleaned in the local forests surrounding our workshop.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS

Each and every pick is carefully handcrafted in 8 steps. The horn is unrolled and hot pressed to obtain a plate.

The pick shape is then traced with a template and cut manually with a saw.

Then come several sanding steps and the shaping of the tip and angles.

Finally, we give it a nice shine by rubbing with cotton and flannel (no varnish or dye are used).
